FAQS
Frequently asked questions
What meals are added in my stay?
We are self-catering by default, so no meals are added in your stay. Should you wish meals please request a menu. All meals need to be ordered well in advance.
Do you cater for vegetarian or other dietary meals?
We can do if given good notification of exactly what the guest requires. We have one or two vegetarian options like our vegetable risotto with pearl barley or vegetarian lasagna, which uses milk and cheese so not vegan friendly.
Is the road to the Guest House suitable for all vehicles?
Yes, the road is suitable for all types of vehicles. The final 600‑meter stretch leading to the Guest House is a dirt road. During the rainy season, or after heavy rain, smaller vehicles may need to drive slowly and with care.
While potholes can occasionally develop (as they do on tar roads too), the road remains accessible. This road falls under the City of Johannesburg, but local residents take responsibility for its upkeep to ensure it is graded and stays in good condition.
Do you have reliable WiFi and Mobile signal.
Yes, we provide reliable WiFi and mobile signal throughout the property. Please note that mobile reception may vary slightly depending on where you are on the grounds.
Our WiFi is perfect for staying connected via WhatsApp, email, and social media. To ensure a smooth experience for everyone, we kindly ask guests to avoid heavy downloads besides using it for Netflix and DSTV streaming via our Smart TV, as this can place unnecessary strain on the system when multiple people are online.
What time is arrival and departure?
Arrival time is 14H00 to 18H00 - please advise if you will be arriving later.
Departure time is 10H00
We have a contactless, self-check-in procedure, which is useful should you be arriving later. We are pretty strict about departure time as we may need to change over the unit for incoming guests and this takes time.
How far is the Guest House from the nearest town.
We are 10 minutes from the closest spar, 15 minutes from Chartwell Corners, which has a nice range of shops and then 25 minutes from big shopping centres like Fourways Mall and Northgate.
Do the rooms have air-conditioning or heating?
All rooms have heating options for winter, and fans are provided for summer comfort.
The four Guinea Fowl Rooms have aircon, which are set at 25 degrees C in winter and 24 degrees C in summer for a guest's comfort.
Is daily housekeeping included?
Yes, light daily housekeeping is included. Full servicing can be arranged for longer stays.
Do you provide towels and toiletries?
Yes, light daily housekeeping is included. Full servicing can be arranged for longer stays.
Do you have backup power during load shedding?
Yes, we have solar power to keep essential services running during load shedding. Please note that solar is not 100% foolproof, especially during long overnight outages. To prevent a full blackout, we may need to switch off geysers and ask guests to keep all non‑essential appliances off.
WiFi, TV and lights are perfectly fine to use. However, kettles, fans, air‑conditioners, heaters, and other high‑draw appliances must stay off during extended outages, as they place heavy demand on the solar system.
We kindly ask guests to follow our guidance during load shedding so that everyone can enjoy uninterrupted essential power throughout their stay.
Is there secure parking on the property?
Yes, we offer secure, on‑site parking close to all accommodation units. Some units have garages or shade cloth parking.
What kitchen facilities are available in the rooms?
Our self‑catering units include fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes with everything needed for a comfortable stay.
Are braai facilities available?
Yes, braai facilities are available at all units. Wood or charcoal can be purchased on site.
Is the property fenced and secure?
Yes, the property is fenced and monitored, offering a safe and peaceful environment.
Do you have night staff or on‑site management?
Yes, management lives on the property and is available if there is an urgent need. As we are an owner‑run, family‑operated lodge, we kindly ask guests to contact us after 21h00 only for matters that genuinely require immediate attention.
For non‑urgent queries, we are always happy to assist the following morning.
This helps us ensure everyone on the property — including ourselves — enjoys a peaceful and respectful stay.
